Today I visited the Kingdom of Northumberland on the NW English coast. Weather was near perfect, can you believe I was in a t-shirt for most of the day! First castle visited was Holy Island which is also know as Lindisfarne. This was an important fortification in the day as it was often the first part of the English coastline encountered by the Vikings. Access to the island is limited to low tide so it was only a short visit before crossing back to the main land. If not it would be 6 hours stranded before the next low tide. Next on the hit list was Bamburgh castle, which was featured in the original Blackadder series. Final one of the day was Alnwick castle. The grounds of this castle was used to film the broomstick flying lesson scene on the first Harry Potter film. I think I am now officially castled out. No more, well maybe 1 or 2 in Ireland after a couple of days break. Tomorrow a walk along Hadrian's wall with more typical English weather forecast.
