Monserrat

Our visit coincided with the patron saint of Catalonia, St George where roses and books are sold on every street corner. Women are given a single rose and men receive a book. Of course, this meant the squares where crowded with locals as well as tourists so luckily this is the day we had booked a Montserrat tour. We boarded our bus (full of porpor’s/grandmothers according to T!) for the 70km journey to Montserrat, a monastery in the “serrated mountains”. A quick furniculer ride took us to a beautiful view of the monastery perched on the mountain surrounded by domes of many shapes and sizes. Another perfect spring day to appreciate the scene. Our day ended with some Tapas – calamari and potatoes were our favourite. Instead of discarding our free roses we received from the bus company, we searched for some older single women to give them to. That was a funny experience in itself – A managed to give one away quite easily. M tried with two older ladies who thought she was trying to sell them until A managed a “gratis” and Sydney/Australia in a strange Spanish accent! Tomorrow we are off to London town.
