Hola Barcelona!

Tapas, Paella, Spanish Hot Chocolate and Churros (oh yes, and we managed to find time to fit some sightseeing in as well!)

La Sagrada Familia

T enjoyed the overnight train down to Barcelona – a “Rip van Winkle”, that child can sleep through anything! We were unfortunate enough to share a carriage with an unruly teenage school group who didn’t sleep. An espresso and Spanish hot chocolate complete with churros was required to get us through the day. Our first day in Espana was spent walking around the Gothic Quarter followed by a visit to the incredible La Sagrada Familia. Even T enjoyed the visit we believe – a church never-the-less, but “kooky” enough to engage her. Gaudi’s unusual architecture is dotted around the city and dominates the souvenir shops and stands. While the view was nice (and M appreciated the lift as opposed to climbing!) – fun was to be had when climbing the spiral stairs down where the “grape” shaped turrets could be seen and you could see right down the bottom in the centre of the spiral – a little unnerving to say the least! Our first day was complete with a Flamenco show. While T thought the singer sang as though he had a stomach ache(!), we all loved the dancers. Ole!
