Staying in a nice apartment in La Spezia, just a stone’s throw from the first town of the Cinque Terra. Neighbourhood is a little sus however if you just make sure the door is locked it’s fine! Spent all of today exploring the region. We’ve never seen water so blue or clear before – it’s majestic. The towns that have been there for centuries hug the cliffs. The water was just wonderful to swim in after a hot, steep walk between towns. Decided to shout ourselves a great meal tonight – Troife pasta with a fresh basil pesto sauce with zucchini and potato – a local specialty and unbeleiveably tasty. This was after having fish and chips for lunch which included all local produce – calamari, fish, scampi, octopus and pilchards. The next day we walked from Vernazza to Monterosso – wild Mediterranean landscape. This was followed by a snorkelling trip in one of the Marine parks from Riomaggiore. Nice night in with a home cooked meal with lots of vegies missing from the current diet.
