Spent most of yesterday in a train on the way to Venice from Salzburg. Beautiful trip, gorgeous scenery with snow capped mountains and blue skies – yay!
Spent today taking in the sites of Venice – and lots of food and Murano glass jewellery shopping. Been in Italy now just over 24 hours and have had pizza, pasta, ciabatta, foccacias, gelati and Italian hot chocolate.
Venice is a gorgeous as I remember it 20 years ago – just more tourists! Spent today seeing St Marco Basilica with its incredible mosaic interior, the view from the Bell Tower, St Marco square, Rialto Bridge and getting lost in the many beautiful canals. We even got a reduced rate gondola ride – by waiting at the gondola station and pouncing on an older couple who asked how much a gondola ride cost and turned away when they found out how much. We offered to share and split the costs which was a great way to go. Also cruised the Grand Canal on the Vaparetto and discovered the bridge from which I took a photo many years ago and painted for Mum. Here I am pointing to the scene Mum!
